Brown Hart Gardens: Tailored Zinc Roof Completed

A significant milestone has been reached at Brown Hart Gardens with the completion of the building's bespoke zinc roof.

While its geometry may appear contemporary, the roof has been crafted entirely by hand using traditional techniques that have been employed by specialist roofing trades for centuries. Despite the complexity of the form, no elements were prefabricated, making the completed roof a remarkable example of craftsmanship, technical expertise and precision on site.

Zinc remains one of the most versatile materials used in roofing today. First gaining prominence across Paris during the Napoleonic era, it continues to be valued for its durability, adaptability and sustainability credentials. Its long lifespan and recyclability make it a material well suited to contemporary construction while maintaining a strong connection to traditional building practices.

The completion of the roof marks another important step in the transformation of Brown Hart Gardens, a landmark Grade II listed building in the heart of Mayfair. Working with an existing structure presents unique challenges, requiring careful coordination between heritage considerations, modern construction requirements and specialist trades.

OKTA Construction is proud to be delivering the construction and fit-out works for this hospitality destination, working alongside Archiclad and the wider project team to bring new life to one of London's historic buildings.

By retaining and adapting the existing structure, the project not only preserves an important piece of the city's architectural fabric but also supports a more sustainable approach to construction through reduced waste, lower embodied carbon and the continued use of existing resources.

As work continues on site, the completion of the tailored zinc roof stands as a testament to the skill, dedication and craftsmanship of everyone involved.
